Hooked Cabarete

Great Surfseason…

Over the couple of weeks we´ve witnessed some amazing days of surfing. Due to “El Nino”, frequent North Swells are hitting the North Coast of the Dominican Republic and producing some beautiful waves here at Playa Encuentro, Cabarete. The different breaks were working and especially the advanced spots “La izquierda” and “Coco Pipe” were going off on some days.

Using the great opportunities the “Encuentro Surfchallenge 2010” took place here at the beach in front of Hooked Cabarete. Surfing performances on a high level and a great organised event with live music, parties, and lots of spots action. The atmosphere in Cabarete was pumin!

Followed by the “Master of the Ocean”, a triathlon with Surfing, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing, which was held for the 8th time also here at Playa Encuntro. Perfect conditions for the surfing Finals on the last day opened up for some great performances.

Wakeboarding @ Cabwake

04. February 2010

After a nice moring surf at Playa Encuentro we went wakeboarding with some of our guests. Adam from Cabwake did some theory on land before we jumped on his nice boat. Everyone got up really easy after some tips and had some great rides. The river La Boca is so beautiful and we were really stoked and had lots of fun.

restuarants, our pick

  • We won't bore you with packages including food. Cabarete has amazing restaurants in all price ranges. From fancy beach clubs to local restaurants in the Dominican areas. By checking out some places you experience so much more of the country.  And you can also make your own meal since each room has its own private kitchen. And there is a BBQ you are free to use.

    Our picks:

    • El Tigre: Local restaurant in Dominican area. Good fish and goat, super friendly people. Try as a starter the yuca cookies.
    • Onno's: lot's of food on the menu and very affordable. Until 7 PM all the tapa's and local drinks are half priced.
    • Casanova: Excellent food but a bit overpriced. Between 5 and 6 all the pasta and pizza half price. Nice decoration and set up.
    • In between Cabarete and Sabaneta, you can find the best fish place in the are. El Gusto is definitely worth the drive and very affordable.
    • El Chino doesn’t have the nicest ambiance, but the Chinese food is fresh and very good. Lots of veggies! Also handy for take away.
    • or lunch at the EzE behind the Carib center is recommendable. Great wraps and very nice view over Cabarete bay.
    • for a good start of the day go to Friends. Best breakfast in town.
    • Streetchicken: Florians favorit take away place. Tasty Caribien chicken grilled on a huge BBQ. You will find this place in front of the Ocean Dream.
    • Bayerischer Hof: This is a typical german place in the DR. Long tables and big white beers. If you are looking for meat? This is the place to go to. Not suited for vegetarians.
    • The best Sushi place you can find a little bit before town on your left hand at the Ocean Dream square, in front of the entrance of the Callegon de la Loma.
And  more…….we are happy to explain you where to go!

Things to do during your stay

    EH_truck

Some things to do in the Dominican Republic during your stay.

    • Rent a car and make a daytrip to Santiago for shopping and see the market. The route to Santiago itself is beautiful. you can make a loop- first to Moca-Satiago and back through the mountains to Puerto Plata and Sosua. This road is bumpy and not very well maintained.
    • Cascading at the 27 waterfalls. make sure the touroperator does them all 27 and not only 7.
    • ATV trip in the mountains/hills behind Cabarete.

    Where to stay?

This is a question everybody has before going on a holiday. Below you will find my point of view and experiences about different accommodations.el_limon
The first time we went to Cabarete was in June 2004. We stayed in an All Inclusive Resort. There were no other tickets available anymore and we wanted to visit Cabarete very much to see if we could build up a future and start our dream (Hooked Cabarete). Now there are many more direct flights from Europe (and the states) to the DR (closest airport is Puerto Plata).I personally stay rather in the small...
